forkliftSealcon’s roots trace back nearly 4 decades after Hanspeter Spühler, a Swiss engineer and newlywed seeking opportunity and adventure immigrated to Colorado in 1968.  He spent years working as an independent rep at Norgren, a global engineering company specializing in pneumatics, but he was an entrepreneur at heart.  After several failed business attempts, he founded Hi-Tech Controls in 1987 whose focus was to import European cable and components from Helukabel.  A short time later, Hanspeter and his friend Elmar met a growing German company called Hummel with ambitions to expand their cable gland business into the North American market.  Given the complementary nature of the product lines, the friends decided to start Sealcon together.  Business ownership is not for everyone so after a short time, Elmar sold his shares to Hanspeter making him 100% owner of both companies.  The businesses grew from a home garage into a small office space to a full warehouse operation in Centennial, Colorado — solving customer problems with hands-on ingenuity, like hand-dyeing gray cable glands black on the kitchen stove before Hummel adopted it as a standard product.

Hanspeter’s son Daniel grew up in the business and eventually devoted himself to it fully, spending a formative year in Germany strengthening supplier relationships before working his way through every department at Sealcon.  It was a prerequisite from his father to earn an MBA before taking on the role of CEO so as a newlywed with two young children to support, he went back to school while working full-time at the company which was a challenge in and of itself.  It didn’t make things easier when he asked his dad for a raise and the answer was “no.”  Daniel spent years buying into the company and when Hanspeter passed away in 2020, Daniel took full ownership.  It was a difficult time because he hadn’t just lost his business partner but he also lost his parent, mentor and friend.  With the support of his life partner and team of dedicated managers and committed employees who were already like family to him, he made a number of difficult yet necessary changes over the years.  All of them presented challenges but he knew that in order to best position the company for long-term success, the risks were necessary.

Hi-Tech Controls has since merged into Sealcon unifying under one brand providing a more comprehensive solution and seamless purchasing experience for customers.  Under Daniel’s leadership, Sealcon has had consistent growth and is on pace to hit its best year ever — a testament to the founding belief that hard work, integrity, and strong partnerships build something lasting.  The heart of any business is its people and Sealcon will continue to provide customers with the best cable management solutions while striving to give them the service they deserve.  We don’t just sell products, we find solutions!
